The present Hotel New York on the Wilhelminapier is the former Holland America Line's headquarters. Rotterdam proudly welcomes cruiseships in the city mainly from about April until October. Nowadays a cruiseship can easily be over 300 metres long and look like a multistore appartment building. The European Headoffice of Holland America Line is located in Rotterdam which emphasise the warm relation there is between HAL and Rotterdam. Two of HAL's brand new ships have been inaugurated in Rotterdam; MS Oosterdam in 2003 and MS Eurodam in 2008. Thousands gathered on the shores of the river Maas to be part of the festivities.
